A May message from Audrey Epstein Reny

Dear Stepping Strong 5K Team,

I hope that you and your families remain healthy during this challenging time. For me, it feels like the toll of sheltering at home is starting to drag on and hit hard. I do find it comforting to know that across the country, and globe, we are in this together for the well-being of all; and this to me, is the essence of Stepping Strong.

To keep our team motivated and connected while we are apart, we have put together some tools for the month of May which is Trauma Awareness Month. We hope that you will participate and find it meaningful and helpful for your fundraising too.

1. #GivingTuesdayNow: May 5

In response to the unprecedented needs caused by COVID-19, #GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020. Share your GoFundMe Charity page on social media or create a Facebook Fundraiser and ask your donors to support the work of the Stepping Strong Center and your run. Now, more than ever, trauma is a global issue and hasn’t stopped, even in the face of a pandemic.

2. Virtual fundraising and the use of special occasions

During this time of physical distancing, individuals are making sure to stay connected with friends and family, especially to celebrate special occasions like graduations, birthdays, milestones, etc. Consider using a special occasion to spread the word about your 5K run in September and ask for donations in lieu of gifts.

Continue to be well.

With heartfelt thanks,

One Boston Day Message from the Reny Family

Dear Stepping Strong 5K Team,

April 15th, now known as One Boston Day, marks the anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing tragedy. Each year, my family pauses on this day, with both sadness and strength in our hearts, to reflect back on the life-changing events that occurred seven years ago. In honor of One Boston Day, I hope you are inspired to embrace the Boston Strong spirit by recognizing the good in our community and spreading acts of kindness.

In the face of COVID-19, this April 15th is especially meaningful. Our family is cherishing this unexpected time together and we are grateful for the opportunity to be living together under one roof. And despite the uncertain times, we feel the power of the global community coming together for the common good.

This is not new to us; it is how Boston rallied in 2013 in the wake of the marathon bombings. In this city, you don’t mess with us! We are resilient and we pull together to take care of one another.

We are humbled to say that this spirit lives on in the Stepping Strong Center. It defines how we tackle the complex issues that face trauma patients, how we collaborate to develop innovative solutions that improve lives, and how we strive to educate the next generation of medical leaders.

You are a critical part of our Stepping Strong family. Thank you for supporting this meaningful work and raising the funds that make it all happen. And thank you for helping us turn unanticipated tragedies into hope.

We know it is tough right now for everyone, but stay the course, by remaining at home (except for some daily runs or walks with face masks) so we, and our families, friends, and neighbors all remain strong and healthy. We are looking forward to gearing up for September’s 5K together.

Xo Audrey, Steven, Danielle and Gillian

The Boston Athletic Association announced the new date for the 2020 B.A.A. 5K will be SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2020. We are excited that we will be able to cheer on all of our runners in September during marathon weekend. Because of the postponement, the fundraising deadline has been pushed back to September 12 at 6am.

If you are not able to join us in September, please refer to the email sent from the B.A.A. regarding their refund policy – we hope you will still join us for a ‘virtual’ run. More details to come soon!

Happy Valentine’s Day from the Reny’s!

Dear Stepping Strong 5K Team,

Valentine’s Day is a good excuse for us to tell you how much we love your dedication and commitment to running the 2020 B.A.A. 5K to support The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation. Our passion for supporting trauma survivors comes from our love for our precious daughter, our love for the amazing physicians at the Brigham who saved her, our love for cherished family and friends who helped us in our time of need, and our love for everyone who has joined the Stepping Strong family over the last 6 years. So thank you! Wishing you an extra special day and hope you get to spend it with your loved ones!
